Martin’s men hear tales of 1935/36

When Romford travelled to St Margaretsbury for an FA Cup preliminary round tie last Saturday they were greeted with news of one of their former players from the 1935/36 squad.

The son of George Howlett (back row, second from right) showed them a photo of the bygone Romford team – who were Athenian League champions and FA Amateur Cup semi-finalists during the season in question – and told the current club his father was still alive, but not very well.

Paul Martin’s 2014/15 squad signed a copy of the Romford history page in the matchday programme at the weekend and sent over a current photo to complete the set before going on to win their preliminary round tie by a 4-0 margin.
