Scott storms to snowy success

Harriet Scott was a convincing winner for Havering Mayesbrook at the latest Essex Cross Country League event at the weekend.

As football, rugby and even ice hockey matches were postponed due to the arctic conditions, athletes braved snow and blizzard conditions in Great Notley, with Scott finishing two minutes clear of her rivals in the senior women’s race.

The men maintained their hold on top spot as six runners battled through the worst of the weather to claim second place.

Jamie Buckley-Stanton (10th) was the first home as four Havering athletes finished inside the top 20.

Lydia Hallam and Sarah Wilson were third in the under-15 and under-13 girls events, while Hoseah Gikungu was fifth for the under-17 men.

Sean Wilson (seventh), Heidi Surman-Wells (eighth), James Kidd and Lindsay McLachlan (ninth) also recorded top-10 finishes for the club.
