Captain Barry reflects on Heybridge defeat
Romford captain Jack Barry felt his side’s 3-1 defeat at Ryman One North rivals Heybridge Swifts last night was harsh.
James Ishmail put Boro in front just before half time, but Dumebi GB-Dumaka’s double turned things around in the second half.
Jamie Guy added a late third for the hosts, as they ended Boro’s five-match unbeaten run at Scraley Road.
But Barry said: “The scoreline flattered them a bit in all honesty.
“It was a game of two halves really and their goals came from a couple of mistakes on our behalf.
“They pounced on them and got the goals they needed but it’s not like they have completely opened us up and then scored like we did to them for our goal.
“We put about six or seven passes together and then scored and I think that was the best football in that first half we have played all season.
“We have to do that all game but I think we were getting a few tired legs out there because of the fixture pile-up we have had lately and the pitch was pretty heavy.”
Boro had taken 11 out of a possible 15 points going into last night’s game and go back on the road on Saturday to visit Burnham.
Away trips to Brentwood and Waltham Abbey follow on Tuesday and Thursday in another busy week for Paul Martin’s men and Barry wants them to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
He added: “As I said, the result was harsh but we won’t dwell on it that much because we have been in good form and I think that was our first defeat in six games, so we had a bit of momentum going.
“We will have to take the positives out of that first half and put it into Saturday’s game away to Burnham for the 90 minutes, which all the boys know we can do, and take the three points.”
