Romford were left to rue a poor first-half performance as they fell to defeat at Bostik North rivals Mildenhall Town.

The home side took the lead on eight minutes when Emmanuel Osei-Owuso found the top corner and it was 2-0 just after the half-hour mark as Abouhadje Kouassi netted following a strong run on the left.

Boro managed two on-target shots and a header over the crossbar at the other end, but improved in the second half and halved the deficit on the hour through Henry Fisher.

Paul Martin’s men might have drawn level from a goalmouth scramble, but Mildenhall survived that close call and held on during a frantic finale to secure the points and send Boro home empty-handed.

A fifth successive league defeat leaves Romford down in 16th place and they now turn their attentions to a tough Essex Senior Cup fourth-round tie at table-topping Bowers on Tuesday.

They lost 2-0 at the Len Salmon Stadium on their most recent trip on October 27.

Romford: Hughes, Forrest, Fisher, Okoye, Olukoga, Cossington, Taylor (Bradford 64), Toussaint, Boolton, Gaother-Braithwaite (Lemba 66), Hammond. Unused subs: Akpele, Joseph, Campbell.
