Romford ended their five-game losing run in the league with a hard-fought point against Basildon at Rookery Hill.
Buoyed by their penalty shoot-out win over Bostik North leaders Bowers & Pitsea in the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday, Boro welcomed a Bees side without a win in eight matches in all competitions.
Manager Paul Martin had signed Danny Nesbitt and Alfie Cleal on Friday, with Nesbitt named among the substitutes and going on to make his debut for the club late on as a replacement for the injured Danny Cossington.
Jonathan Nzengo was included from the start, due to being cup-tied for East Thurrock’s FA Trophy tie, but the home side were unable to create many clear chances, although Harry Daly had two opportunities to break the deadlock but could not hit the target.
The visitors had chances late on to snatch all three points but were denied by the woodwork and some good saves by Rhys Hughes.
Romford: Hughes, Forrest, Nzengo, Daly (Jones 69), Olykoga, Cossington (Nesbitt 80), Bradford, Toussaint, Lemba (Tayloy 70), Bolton, Hammond. Unused sub: Joseph.
