Romford return after successful trials
Romford manager Paul Martin was ‘buzzing’ for pre-season after holding a successful series of trials.
Boro’s first-team squad were due to return to training last night (Thursday), but Martin says they could face stiff competition from some new faces.
He said: “We had 82 turn up to the first session, then it went up to 135!
“I cut it down to 28, but then another 40 turned up. Now we’ve broken it down to the best 22.
“The first team are due back but the way the trials have gone will give them a push.
“I’m buzzing, but I think there will be a few worried faces.”
Boro play their first pre-season friendly against Barkingside on Tuesday week (July 10) and Martin added: “We’ve got some tough games lined up and will see if the new boys can hold their own.
“They have come from everywhere to try out and there have been some outstanding 18-year-olds, with pace and ability.
“We’ve had a full pitch to work on for a full two hours every time and everyone has been getting enough minutes for us to have a look at them. I’m really looking forward to it.”
