Harold Wood Cougars under-18s completed an Echo League and Cup double with a 1-0 success over Valence United at Leyton Orient’s Brisbane Road stadium.

Having already clinched the league title, they competed in the Peter Coote Cup final in E10, cheered on by a sizeable and vocal crowd.

Chances came thick and fast in a frantic, compelling contest and the deadlock was broken on 25 minutes as Cougars broke from a Valence corner and Ollie Scott swapped passes with Jacob Roberts on halfway before racing clear and beating the advancing keeper with a deft finish.

Valence went close to levelling 10 minutes from time, but Charlie Fisher made an outstanding save.

Seth Woodward went close to doubling Harold Wood’s lead late on, but one goal proved enough to clinch victory and lift the silverware having not conceded a single goal in the competition.
