Defender has signed one-year deal with Daggers after leaving Boreham Wood

Dagenham & Redbridge have signed central defender Alex Davey on a one-year deal ahead of the 2018/19 National League season.

Davey arrives on a free transfer from National League rivals Boreham Wood, where he spent the second half of last season and made 12 appearances in all competitions.

The 23-year-old began his career with Chelsea and had loan spells with Scunthorpe United, Peterborough United, Staebek and Crawley Town while with the Blues.

After being released by the Premier League outfit, the centre-back joined Cheltenham Town and has also turned out for now National League South outfit Torquay United.

Davey, who worked with Daggers assistant manager Terry Harris at Wood last season, is the Essex club’s second summer signing following the arrival of defender Gavin Hoyte earlier this afternoon.

Both signings will join the squad when they start pre-season training tomorrow.
