Friendly: Hendon 1 Dagenham & Redbridge 4
Frankie Raymond and Leo Donnellan pressed their cases to start for Dagenham & Redbridge on the opening day of the season as they helped a youthful looking side to a 4-1 friendly win at Ryman Premier outfit Hendon.
The midfielders were just two of four full-time professionals named in the matchday squad at Silver Jubilee Park, along with Jimmy Shepherd and Jakub Berkowicz.
It took Daggers just 16 minutes to take the lead, with Donnellan tapping home after Victor Zapata’s initial shot was saved by Greens stopper Berkeley Laurencin.
The ex-Queens Park Rangers midfielder was also involved in the second as Donnellan was fouled in the box, with Raymond doubling the visitors’ advantage from the spot shortly after the half-time interval.
Young midfielder Tyrique Hyde added a third in the 56th minute before Zapata added a fourth for the Essex side less than 60 seconds later to all but end the match as a contest.
Hendon pulled a goal back through Aaron Morgan with 10 minutes remaining, but never looked like mounting a late fightback as Daggers held on to win.
Daggers: Moore, Shepherd, Wise, Uyi, Donnellan, Raymond, Odamatey, Zapata, Dickson, Greene, Ling
