Daggers goalkeeper O’Brien keen to get one over former side Brentford

Former Brentford goalkeeper Liam O’Brien admits it’ll be nice to see a few familiar faces tonight when the Daggers take on the Bees in the Capital One Cup tie at Victoria Road,

However, according to O’Brien they’ll no longer be his mates come kick-off.

“It’s an old club but at the end of the day it’s another 90 minutes football and they might be my mates beforehand but come quarter to eight they won’t be my mates anymore,” said O’Brien.

The 23-year-old is hoping to keep his place in the Daggers side for the fixture against his old employer as the hosts try to cause an upset against the Championship new boys.

And after Saturday’s disappointing 3-0 loss to Morecambe to start the League Two season, O’Brien and the rest of the team are keen to bounce back in style against Mark Warbuton’s side.

“We want to prove the Morecambe game was a one-off and I think it is important we go out there and give it everything we have got and try to win the game,” he added. “There’s no reason why not, they might see us as underdogs and that might be a chance we can take.”

The Daggers ran the Bees close last season, with a late goal from Farid El-Alagui eventually seeing the Griffin Park outfit progress.

O’Brien was in the stands watching that game, and he now hopes for a similar performance tonight.

“I was at the game last season and they almost got through and it was only the last 15-20 minutes where Brentford came back into it,” he said.

“Hopefully we can go one better this time and pick up the win.”
