Both Essex club and Whites are in relegation zone ahead of Tuesday’s meeting

Dagenham & Redbridge face a crunch clash in the Vanarama National League when they visit Dover Athletic on Tuesday night.

Both teams currently find themselves in the relegation zone ahead of the meeting at the Crabble Athletic Ground, with Daggers 21st and the Whites bottom.

The Essex club, however, will be brimming with confidence on their trip to Kent after a 2-1 victory at home to Harrogate Town on Saturday.

And midfielder Harry Phipps has called on the Victoria Road outfit to build on the weekend win by getting the better of Dover on Tuesday night.

“The camaraderie and everything in the changing room, we’ve had that all season. It showed out there against Harrogate, which was a positive,” said the 20-year-old.

“If we can win at Dover, it will be a big three points for us and we’d look to push on from that.

“Six points in two games would be great, so we need a win at Dover.

“There’s a long way to go in the season, so we’ll forget about what has happened in the last two months and push on from here.”

The need to build on the win over Harrogate was a sentiment shared by Daggers boss Peter Taylor.

There were a host of contenders for man of the match on Saturday and Taylor would surely be keen to name the same XI at Dover on Tuesday.

But the one-time England caretaker manager hinted he may be forced into changes with another quick turnaround this week.

“It’s another tough game in this tough league. Some of our players could probably do with a rest this week, but we have to go again,” said Taylor.

Daggers will make the trip to Dover without midfielder Tyrique Hyde, who has had his contract with the Essex club terminated by mutual consent.

The 19-year-old made eight first-team appearances for Daggers, scoring one goal.
