Stopper has not featured for Daggers since April 2017, but is in line to start in goal this weekend
Elliot Justham is in line to make his first Dagenham & Redbridge appearance in almost 16 months when they start the new National League season at Boreham Wood on Saturday.
The keeper’s last appearance for Daggers came in a 2-2 draw at home to Sutton United last April.
After that game, Mark Cousins replaced Justham between the sticks for the remainder of the 2016/17 season.
Justham then began last season on the bench as backup to Cousins, before suffering an injury which ruled him out for the remainder of that campaign.
Now back to full fitness, the Luton Town man looks set to be Daggers’ top stopper this term after Cousins left to join divisional rivals Barnet.
And after so long on the sidelines, Justham cannot wait for the new season to begin this weekend.
“Last season was frustrating season not starting, but Mark did well and then I got injured and had a long time out,” he added.
“With the help of (physio) John Gowans and the medical team, I’ve got back to full fitness and feel relatively strong.”
It has been a busy summer for Daggers, with plenty of players departing and a host of new additions to the squad.
There has also been a change in the management team, with Peter Taylor replacing John Still in the dugout.
With so much change at the club, this pre-season may have been one of the most important in Daggers’ history.
But with the hard graft now done, Justham cannot wait for the season to begin in earnest at Wood on Saturday.
“It’s been a tough pre-season with a new manager coming in, but it’s been very good working under him,” added the former Luton Town stopper.
“It’s a lot different this year and there’s been a big change in personnel.
“Everyone is focussing on the Boreham Wood game and we can’t wait to get going, especially myself because it’s been a long time coming.”
