Dagenham & Redbridge managing director Steve Thompson says the club are still talking to potential investors, but that talks are yet to reach a ‘serious’ stage.

The National League outfit are currently on the lookout for new investment after former director Glyn Hopkin ceased funding the club.

On Tuesday, the Evening Standard published an article stating that two potential parties had withdrawn their interest in investing in Daggers, which Thompson confirmed as true.

The managing director, though, said the club are still in talks with other potential investors, including ones from outside the United Kingdom, but that those talks are yet to reach an advanced stage.

“We are talking to people about investing in the club, but we’re yet to have what I would class as serious dialogue,” said Thompson.

“We’ve spoken to people and agents representing potential investors, which is not uncommon in business, but they are yet to supply the information we’re looking for.

“At some stage, we need to meet the principle investors, but we’re not there at the minute.”

As part of their efforts to raise funds, Daggers are hosting Premier League outfit West Ham United in a friendly on March 21.

Daggers are auctioning off the opportunity to manage the hosts in that encounter, and Thompson knows hom important fundraising initiatives such as that are in helping the Essex club.

“It’s a great chance to help the club and we still have a while to go in that auction. We’re also auctioning off a signed match ball from our 2010 League Two play-off final win, and there will be a big raffle on the night of the West Ham game,” he added.

• Dagenham & Redbridge have announced they will hold a fans’ forum on March 15 in the main club house at their Victoria Road ground.

Chairman Paul Gwinn, managing director Steve Thompson, directors Dave Bennett and Dave Simpson, first-team manager John Still and club secretary Tony Payne will all be in attendance at the meeting.

Open to all Daggers fans and free to attend, the meeting, which begins at 7.30pm, has been called to update supporters and members of the club about the current financial plight of the National League outfit.
