Liam Gordon knows a victory at home to Fylde on Saturday would be the perfect way for Dagenham & Redbridge to return to action in the Vanarama National League.

Having already been knocked out of the FA Cup before the first round proper, Daggers were left without a competitive fixture last Saturday.

That means they have had more time than usual to mull over a defeat at Sutton United on their previous outing in the league on November 3.

By losing at the U’s, Peter Taylor’s men saw a two-game winning run end and also slipped back into the relegation zone.

But Gordon, who will be hoping to be back in the starting XI to face Fylde on Saturday, knows beating the Coasters would generate some much-needed momentum for the Essex club.

“We lost to Sutton in our last game, so we need to get back to winning ways and get into good form and good habits,” said the 19-year-old left-back.

“With the wins over Harrogate Town and Dover Athletic, we moved up the table and came out of the relegation zone.

“We’re back in it now, but we need a win to get back out of it and to give us a confidence boost.

“Anything can happen in this league and there’s no one in this league that is drastically better than we are.

“We want to keep moving up the table and keep winning games.”

Daggers will hope to give their home fans a result to cheer on Saturday, having won just twice at Victoria Road this term.

Despite the poor results at home, the supporters have by and large remained behind the squad so far this season.

That includes Gordon, who became something of a fan favourite following a string of fine displays earlier in the season.

And the academy graduate says he is grateful for the backing he has received from the supporters this term.

“The fans have been brilliant and behind me. They know I’m young and I’ve made some mistakes, but they’ve still been backing me,” he added.

“The fans have been great towards me and the gaffer has been great as well, so it’s been a positive all round.”
