Champions extend winning run to 11

Romford Raiders signalled their intent to the rest of the National League with two fine wins at the weekend.

The defending champions returned to action after a break in their schedule to thrash Cardiff at Rom Valley Way on Saturday, then got the better of Essex rivals Chelmsford last night.

And the double success extended their perfect record in league competition this season to 11 wins.

Raiders netted five goals in each period to skate off 15-5 winners against the Devils.

Slovakian sniper Juraj Huska led the way with a hat-trick, with Frankie Harvey, AJ Smith, Matt Turner and Billy Phillips all netting two goals apiece.

Danny Marshall, Grant Taylor, Shaun Wallis and Shaun Yardley also found the target as Raiders outshot their rivals 54-28.

James Ayling put Chieftains ahead in the Essex derby at Riverside Ice Arena, but Phillips levelled on a Romford powerplay before the first break.

Marshall put his side ahead early in the middle session and Huska opened up a two-goal goal just before the midway mark.

Julius Sinkovic gave Chelmsford late hope, but Raiders held on for victory.

Romford Fury were also celebrating after a 4-3 win at Basingstoke in Division Two.
