Cricket: Harold Wood come up short against Buckhurst Hill

Harold Wood slipped to a two-run defeat against Buckhurst Hill in a Shepherd Neame Essex League Division One thriller.

The visitors chose to bat after winning the toss and saw Ryan Karunakaran (35) put on 88 with Hendro Puchert, before Taqi Abbas took two wickets in two balls.

Puchert hit nine fours in his 73, before offering a return catch to Hafiz Yawar Afzal, and Ricky Reynolds (27) fell to Harry Thompson soon after.

Abbas (5-41) and Hamzah Ikram (3-39) shared the rest of the wickets to fall as Hill were dismissed for 226, but Wood lost Mdaminul Isalm Shihan (21) early in reply.

Opening partner Afzal (21) followed, before captain Craig Perrin put on 63 with Raihan Hussain, hitting 11 fours in his 62 off 70 balls.

Shahbaz Khan (24) chipped in during a 54-run stand with Hussain, but Wood then collapsed from 192-3 to 224 all out to lose with two balls remaining.

Hussain was left stranded on 74, having hit two sixes and five fours in his 114-ball innings, as Usman Sahar (5-29) proved the pick of the Buckhurst Hill bowling.
