Opener hits century in Essex League Premier Division opener
Aaron West’s century helped Brentwood begin the new Essex League Premier Division season with a draw against Colchester at picturesque Castle Park.
Chasing 293, the visitors slipped to 195-7 before West and Kieran Emmanuel shared 64 for the eighth wicket to help see them to the close to pick up 10 bonus points.
The home side had solid contributions from Julian Russell, Greg De Silva (66), Jack Hebron (93) and Jake Foley (55) as they reached 292-7 from their 64 overs.
The experienced trio of Tom Moore (3-73), Ian Belchamber (2-59) and Max Osborne (2-72) shared the wickets to fall, but Brentwood lost Guy Balmford, Tom Oakley and Anthony Alleyne cheaply in reply to find themselves 46-3.
West shared 94 for the fourth wicket with captain Joe Buttleman, who hit six fours in his 53, only for Osborne, James Redwood and Moore to all fall to Foley.
Opener West hit two sixes and 13 fours to reach 111 from 148 balls before becoming Foley’s fourth victim, but Emmanuel remained unbeaten on 37 as Brentwood closed on 261-8.
