Upminster under-nines are hoping to enjoy a silver lining to their season in the final of the Don Coates Trophy on Sunday.

While final preparations for the club’s benefit match against an Essex XI are taking place at Upminster Park, the youngsters will be facing Woodford Green at the home of Woodford Wells.

Upminster came through a tough group as winners and then beat South Loughton in a thrilling home semi-final and a club statement said: “Everyone at the club would like to wish Keith Pedrick’s side the very best of luck and we hope to see the team parading the trophy back at Upminster Park in the afternoon!

“Many thanks are also due to Andrew Shields, Sue Blogg and Trevor Hebden from the Metropolitan Essex Cricket Board for organising such an excellent competition in 2017.”

Upminster’s squad includes captain Ross Taylor, as well as Michael Pedrick, Nukul Trivedi, Ethan Berrey, Stanley Moore, Fenton Everingham, Aaron Jackson, Henry Curtis, Thomas Cargill and James Cargill.
