Essex captain Ryan ten Doeschae has been banned for two matches, the England and Wales Cricket Board’s cricket discipline committee have confirmed.

Ten Doeschate received a penalty under the ECB’s fixed penalty directives, after being reported by umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Steve O’Shaughnessy during Essex’s Sepcsavers County Championship match against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford.

Cricket liaison officer Tony Pigott determined that Ten Doeschate had committed a level one breach of the directives (wilfully mistreating any part of the cricket ground, equipment or implements used in the match, and using language that in the circumstances, is obscene, offensive or insulting).

And given the fact that Ten Doeschate has committed previous breaches during the past 24 months, this subsequent breach at level one is therefore three penalty points, bringing him to nine penalty points, the threshold for an automatic suspension.

The Essex skipper is therefore suspended from the county’s next two matches – including the Royal London One-Day Cup play-off against Yorkshire on Thursday (June 14) and either the Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final on Monday June 18 (should Essex qualify) or the Specsavers County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Chelmsford from June 20-23.
