Hornchurch captain previews T20 Finals Day today
Hornchurch captain Roy Smith is hoping his Division One team can upset the odds in the T20 Finals today (Sunday) at Billericay against the likes of Chelmsford, South Woodford and Colchester & East Essex.
The Harrow Lodge Park outfit are the only side left in the competition that aren’t in the Premier Division, but that doesn’t scare Smith’s men.
Although they only earned promotion from Division Two last season, they have already beaten Wanstead, Ilford and Loughton in this year tournament so giantkilling is something they are familar with.
If Hornchurch are to reach the final they must do that again defeat Chelmsford and Smith believes they can.
He said: “Obviously we are confident, especially in the short format. We are carrying a few niggles in the team, but we will patch ourselves up and give it a crack.
“They are a very good side Chelmsford, a real quality side. They are going to be the favourites, but if we can play well I am sure we can upset the odds so we will give it a crack.”
This will be Smith’s first T20 Finals Day and he is extremely excited about being involved in the big spectacle at Billericay’s Toby Howe Cricket Ground.
Hornchurch will have lots of support and the Harrow Lodge Park captain is hoping to send those fans home happy by winning the first trophy of the season.
“I haven’t been involved in a T20 Finals Day before, this is my first,” Smith added.
“I was away when Ardleigh Green got there two years ago so I am looking forward to it.
“It will be nice to have a big crowd there, we will have plenty of support so we will try and enjoy it.”
