Shenfield see off Ilford challenge

Shenfield got the better of Ilford in a high-scoring Essex League Premier Division contest at the Courage Playing Fields.
Stand-in captain Tom Austin chose to bat after winning the toss, but Arshad Ali and Ryan Plom fell cheaply to Hussnain Kazmi (3-73) leave them 33-2.
Jack Potticary held firm and put on 131 for the third wicket with Haris Mahmood, before Haaris Ayub ended his innings on 103, having hit five sixes and 10 fours.
Ayub (2-52) also accounted for Ollie Ekers, with Mahmood falling eight runs short of his century to Mohammad Ahktar after hitting five sixes and nine fours.
Tom Ballington (21) and Jack Plom (21) chipped in, with Matthew Salisbury (58 not out) hitting five sixes and five fours to see Shenfield close on 327-7.
Ilford lost in-form Nishad Deven Gabhawala to the first ball of their reply from Salisbury, but Gurdeep Kandola (36) put on 101 with Saurav Prabhakar before falling to Ali.
Prabhakar went for 59 with the score on 141 and Essex all-rounder Ashar Zaidi fell for just a dozen runs to Richard Abson-Bennett to give Shenfield a huge lift.
Ahktar hit two sixes and 11 fours in his 83 from 71 balls before being bowled by Jack Plom to make it 248-5, while Akash Raji was run out by Mahmood for a quickfire 30.
Jack Plom (3-59) and Austin (2-49) then shared the last four wickets to fall as Ilford were dismissed for 295 in the 48th over.
