Salisbury half-century secures progress

Shenfield came out on top in their Essex League Cup tie with Oakfield Parkonians to set up a second-round trip to Horndon.

The visitors chose to bat after winning the toss but saw both of their opening batsmen dismissed without scoring, by former Essex staffer Matthew Salisbury and Jack Plom.

Academy youngster Plom (3-36) and Salisbury (2-25) added further scalps to leave Parks five down, before Paresh Kalley (30) and Eshun Kalley steadied the ship.

Both fell to Arshad Ali (3-34) as Parks were eventually dismissed for 141 in the 36th over, but Shenfield lost Harsh Kumar cheaply in reply.

Captain Jack Kliber (22) became the second victim for Eshun Kalley (3-38), who also dismissed Tom Ballington (21).

Haris Mahmood (21) also chipped in, as Salisbury’s unbeaten 59 steered Shenfield to their target with five wickets and 22 overs to spare.
