Unbeaten half-century proves key at Belhus

Craig Perrin’s unbeaten half-century helped Harold Wood to victory over Belhus in their Essex League Division One meeting at North Stifford.

Having held on for a draw at South Woodford in their first match of the new campaign, Wood produced a good display in the field to hold the home side to 179-6 from their 50 overs, after Belhus captain Danny Joyce chose to bat first.

Joe Stallibrass (2-56) nabbed a brace, while Hamzah Ikram, Shahbaz Khan and Wasim Khalid also had success with the ball for the visitors.

Wood openers Mdaminul Isalm Shihan (35) and Raihan Hussain (24) put on 56 for the first wicket in reply, but Khan and Maruf Chowdhury fell cheaply as they slipped to 97-5.

Perrin held firm, though, and put on 50 for the sixth wicket with captain Richard Brabner, hitting nine fours to finish 62 not out from 103 balls.

Craig Sampson struck three boundaries in a quickfire unbeaten 21 as Wood won with four wickets in hand, ahead of a home match against Hadleigh next weekend.
