Great Wakering beaten in Mid-Essex League Division Five

The Patels were the star turns as Navestock moved to the top of the Mid-Essex League Division Five table after securing a four-wicket win over Great Wakering.

Navestock didn’t get off to the best of starts as Luke Holman (86) scored freely with Wakering batting first, until Nilesh Patel (4-49) and Matthew Simmons (3-44) came on to bowl.

Patel took the prized wicket of Holman as Navestock restricted their rivals to 178.

In reply, Tom Greaves (16) got them off to a good start, although Holman’s (2-25) saw Navestock at 45-3.

However, Bridesh Patel (45) and Liam Faulkner (24) combined to steady the innings and after Kalpesh Patel (33) increased the run-rate, it was left to Matt Richards (21 not out) and Simmons to steer them over the line.

Navestock will hope to maintain their unbeaten run when facing Rainham on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the seconds picked up a comfortable 118-run win over their Willowherbs counterparts.

Andy Symes (70), Graham Stock (60) and Ian Scott (34 not out) helped Navestock set the hosts 227 for victory, which proved too much as impressive spells from Keith Mitchell (4-20) and youngster Zac Decastro-Bunce (4-33) saw the visitors to a routine victory.
