Navestock clinched the Mid-Essex League Division Five title with a seven-run win over Rayleigh thirds on the last day of the season.

Kieron Scott (28) and Matt Simmons (22) put on 50 for the first wicket, before Will Wheeler (5-39) hit back.

And Tiraj Patel (44) held firm with support from Liam Faulkner (28) and Manish Patel (29) as Navestock got up to 188.

Rayleigh began well in reply, but Ryan Scott (3-32) and veteran Nilesh Patel (3-47) checked their progress.

Wheeler (36) reduced the target to 13 from five overs, with three wickets in hand, before Scott made the breakthrough and Tiraj Patel took a catch down the leg side off Faulkner to seal victory.

The seconds were relegated from Division Eight after a one-wicket loss to Chignal.

Graham Stock (75 not out), Phil Sergeant (59) and Lefras Coetzee (24 not out) led them to 200-3, but Martin Clarke’s unbeaten 104 was key and Tom McCarthy’s career-best 6-30 in vain.
