Leaders frustrated by the weather after reducing rivals to 82-8 before rain denied them victory
St Andrews were forced to settle for a draw in their rain-affected abandonment against Rayleigh fourths in the Mid-Essex League Division Seven at the weekend.
After a 45-minute delay, play got underway with St Andrews bowling first and restricting Rayleigh from the off.
Seventeen overs had been bowled which produced just 22 runs, as well as three wickets.
Graham Street (1-8) picked up the first before a two-wicket spell from Colin Yeomans (3-32).
Andrew Walker (4-14) removed Rayleigh’s dangerous number five and went on to further reduce Rayleigh as they could only muster 82-8 from 36 overs before the rain came and denied St Andrews any hope of victory.
Despite not picking up the big points for the win, five came their way from the abandonment, while another four were picked up for taking eight wickets, and that may prove crucial come the end of the season.
On Saturday they travel to Galleywood in the hope of returning to winning ways.
