Local club looking to keep hold of advantage at the top by winning at second-placed rivals this Saturday

Navestock firsts were unable to make it a 12th Mid-Essex League win of the season, as the weather got the better of them at home to Rayne last weekend.

Play did get underway, with the visitors reaching 57-2 off 19 overs, with Billy Lozowski taking both wickets before the rain came.

Despite the abandonment, they hold a 28-point lead over second-placed Great Wakering who they face on Saturday.

Wakering were one of a handful of games completed last weekend, and they managed to pick up a win to reduce Navestock’s advantage at the top.

Meanwhile, the seconds slipped to a 40-run loss at Rayleigh fifths last weekend.

Batting first, the hosts reached an above-par 190-5 as Vic Simmons led the way with the ball, taking 3-33.

The Navestock reply faltered, though, as despite five players reaching double figures, only Graham Stock (70 not out) mastered the tricky conditions as they finished on 150-5.
