Hutton maintained pace with Essex League Division Two leaders Hainault with a derby win over Old Brentwoods.

Visiting captain Khalid Sarwar chose to bat first at the Polo Field Ground and Ramesh Gunalan (34) shared stands with Mo Amin and Shazad Khan, before his side slipped to 99-5.

In-form Baber Choudhary, having won the league’s Race to 500 prize, dug in to score 34 before falling to William Southgate (4-28), but Brentwoods were all out for 185 in the 46th as Usman Jan (3-18) also had success with the ball for Hutton.

The hosts lost Chris Steinberg cheaply, with Cameron Tredgett also falling after hitting four boundaries to leave them 27-2.

But captain Dan Hagger (22) put on 66 with Australian Vivian Paver, who hit a six and nine fours in his 74 off 84 balls, before Jan (21 not out) sealed a four-wicket win in the 38th over.

A seventh win in nine outings leave Hutton level on 160 points with Hainault at the season’s midway mark.
