Hutton ended up well beaten by Belhus in their Shepherd Neame Essex League Division One promotion showdown.

And the defeat leaves second-placed Hutton with just a one-point advantage over their rivals going into the final game of the season next weekend, with Buckhurst Hill now 17 points clear at the top of the table.

Hutton were put into bat by the hosts and saw Joseph Parry fall cheaply, before Julian Whetstone and Alex Tredgett (23) followed to leave them 53-3.

Cameron Tredgett did not last long and captain Daniel Hagger was run out to see his side slump to 78-5.

Australian all-rounder Vivian Paver had good support from Tom Patterson, who hit four fours in his 25 as they put on 65 for the sixth wicket.

But the lower order fell away as Paver fought a lonely battle and finished unbeaten on 92 from 94 balls, having hit four sixes and six fours.

Hutton closed on 200-9 but the Belhus openers put on 46 in reply before Jonathan Mowll made the breakthrough.

A second-wicket stand of 61 was ended by Connor Whetstone (2-56), who struck again to leave the home side 132-3.

But former Essex staffer Max Osborne (46 not out) and Belhus captain Danny Joyce (29 not out) put on an unbroken 72 to seal a seven-wicket win in the 42nd over.
