Hornchurch Athletic fell to a third successive Mid Essex Division 1 defeat and now find themselves hovering just above the relegation spots.

League leaders Aythorpe Roding batted first at Hylands and made a useful 221 with former Essex staffer Andy Clarke (80) leading the way.

In reply Athletic started badly with openers Ross Raftery and Chris Humphries both dismissed cheaply.

Sam Samarasekera made 25 and Lak Gill 24 but nobody could play the major innings that was needed and they ended up being bowled out for 125.

The seconds have had four wins in a row but were brought down to earth with a defeat at Rainham.

The home side made 217-7 and Sam Blowers hit a rapid 55 in reply and Nathan Bastin made 34 but Athletic could only make 158.

The thirds lost by seven runs against Rankins and the fours also suffered defeat at the hands of Rayleigh sixths.
