Dave Walters and James Coote got Hornchurch Athletic back to winning ways in Mid-Essex League Division One as they cruised to an eight-wicket win over Great Totham at Hylands.

The win ended Athletic’s run of three defeats but if they are to have any hope of a top-two spot they must win at derby rivals Rainham on Saturday.

Walters smashed an unbeaten 105, his third century for the club, as Athletic chased down 165.

Coote (4-29) had earlier run through the Totham batting line-up as Paul Crane chipped in with two wickets.

The seconds fell to a five-wicket defeat at Division Five leaders Navestock.

Tom Heneghan continued his excellent form with a half-century and Ian Crane (44) also impressed, but Athletic’s 181 wasn’t enough.

The thirds dismissed Goresbrook fourths for just 65 as Alex Hardy (4-12) and Mat Willis (3-10) shone, before Neil Roe (27) sealed an eight-wicket win, but the fourths lost by six wickets at Bentley.
