Division Three duo suffer on opening day

The first day of the Essex League Division Three season produced heavy defeats for Ardleigh Green and Woodford Green.

Westcliff put Ardleigh Green into bat at Central Park and saw Sherwin Stanley produce a superb spell with the ball to skittle the home side for 117 in 41 overs.

Paul Hurworth hit a six and two fours in his 22, before he was first to fall to Stanley, who finished with superb figures of 14.3-4-18-5.

John Stanley (3-22) also had success with the ball for the visitors, who were led to an eight-wicket win by Matt Revoize, who hit 12 fours in his unbeaten 60 from 73 balls, as Chris Cook and Jamal Chaudhry claimed the only wickets to fall.

Woodford Green were also sent into bat at Walthamstow and soon in trouble at 13-3.

Anthony Palmer (28) and Paul Richardson (22) top scored in the middle order as the visitors were dismissed for 109 in the 38th over, with Walthamstow reaching their target with six wickets to spare inside 30 overs.
