Wood lost by eight wickets on Saturday

Harold Wood skipper Craig Perrin paid tribute to the performance of Hutton’s Vivan Paver after a eight-wicket defeat away from home in the Shepherd Neame Essex League Division One.

Wood elected to bat first and though Hafiz Afzal (55) and Raihan Hussain (50) both notched half-centuries, Paver took 7-49 as the visitors were all out for 214.

Paver then made an impression with the ball, leading the Hutton chase with a top score of 115 not out as the hosts made it how after 43 overs.

It meant Wood ended the term on a losing note, but Perrin was magnanimous in defeat and reserved praise for the performance from Hutton’s star man Paver.

“We’re disappointed to lose, but we were beaten on the day by a special performance from Vivan,” he said.

“When someone bats and bowls as well as he did on Saturday, it’s always hard to bounce back from that.”
