Harold Wood successfully chased down Hainault & Clayhall in their Shepherd Neame Essex League Division One meeting.

The visitors chose to bat first and reached 246-8 from their 50 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Zoheb Sharif (82) and Maruf Chowdhury (60).

Mousshin Ismail (37) and Sadaif Mehdi (29) also made starts for Hainault, while wickets were shared by Shahbaz Khan (2-37), Hamzah Ikram (2-52) and Taqi Abbas (2-102).

Wood got off to a strong start in reply thanks to openers Hafiz Yawar Afzal (71) and Mdaminul Isalm (64).

But Craig Perrin and Raihan Hussain fell after getting into double figures and Wood suffered a bit of a collapse as Ryan Hurst (4-79) and Muhammad Rahim (2-41) began to turn the screw.

Khan kept his composure, though, to finish unbeaten on 29 as Wood clinched a two-wicket win in 44 overs.

Victory leaves them in sixth place on 180 points, some 47 clear of the relegation zone, as Hainault find themselves four adrift of Gidea Park & Romford in the battle for survival with three games remaining.
