Harold Wood came up short in their Shepherd Neame Essex League Division One match at Buckhurst Hill, who claimed a seven-run win.

Put into bat, the hosts saw Ryan Karunakaran (37) put on 58 with Hendro Puchert (30).

Shoaib Shah hit eight fours in his 51 from 61 balls but his exit left the home side 129-5.

Wood’s Taqi Abbas (4-52) and Wasim Khalid (2-39) ran through the lower order as Buckhurst Hill declared on 202-9 off 48 overs, after Hermes Michael Solomonides (24) and three of the last four batsmen reached double figures.

But the visitors slipped to 46-3 in reply as Puchert (2-30) claimed an early brace and Shahbaz Khan was run out.

Hafiz Yawar Afzal (43) and Mohammed Fahad put on 76 for the fourth wicket, but Karunakaran (3-55) and Rohan Bhome (2-77) hit back with the ball for Hill.

Fahad fell for 56 after hitting two sixes and six fours in a 43-ball innings to leave Wood 147-7, but Hamzah Ikram, Khalid (23) and Abbas gave them late hope, before Usman Sahar (2-5) struck with successive balls to complete the win for Hill.
