Honours even with Buckhurst Hill

Gidea Park & Romford had to settle for 11 bonus points after having the better of their drawn match with Buckhurst Hill in Essex League Division One.

Having beaten South Woodford a week earlier they were put into bat at Gallows Corner and saw James Pegram (29) dominate a 38-run opening stand with Kasi Hoq, before captain Jamal Francis and Mahmudal Hassan fell cheaply to leave them 46-3.

George Rogers (37) gave Hoq further support in a 74-run stand for the fourth wicket, with Kafi Khan (37) helping to add another 69.

And Mohammed Fahad hit six fours in a whirlwind 33 off just 16 balls to help Park close on 227-5, with Hoq carrying his bat to finish unbeaten on 75 from 128 balls, having hit six fours.

Hill lost captain Ricky Reynolds to a run out in reply, but Hendro Puchert and Darren Ironside both hit half-centuries in a 116-run stand for the second wicket to give them hope.

Puchert fell for 68, stumped by Hassan off the bowling of Francis, and Ironside was also dismissed by Park’s skipper for 50 to leave the visitors 164-3.

Matt Connaughton had success at the other end, with another run out checking Buckhurst Hill’s progress further.

Minhaz Bhad (3-51) then claimed three wickets in quick succession to give Park late hope, but their rivals closed on 202-8.
