Gidea Park & Romford’s tailenders dug in for a draw against Shepherd Neame Essex League Division One rivals Belhus at Gallows Corner.

Captain Jamal Francis put the visitors into bat after winning the toss but saw Joy Joyce hit 105 to lead Belhus to 245-4 declared from 48 overs.

Adam McKie (2-60) nabbed a brace for the home side, who lost Michael Pegram to a third-ball duck to Max Osborne.

Fellow opener Md Mostershed Billah-Touhid followed cheaply, with George Rogers (22) and James Pegram also falling to leave Park 35-4.

Francis followed with the score on 55 and wickets continued to fall as Sam Hewitt held firm at one end.

In-form Hewitt reached 28 off 63 balls before he was stumped by Danny Joyce off the bowling of former Essex staffer Osborne (2-18) to leave Park staring defeat in the face at 92-9.

But last-wicket duo Aditya Kumar and Sadiqullah Kamal put up the shutters in a dogged stand, facing a combined total of 70 deliveries to see the home side to the close at 106-9 from 49 overs.
