Australian all-rounder Vivian Paver shone with bat and ball as Hutton beat Orsett in Shepherd Neame Essex League Division One at the Polo Field Ground.

Captain Daniel Hagger chose to bat after winning the toss but fell cheaply and was followed back to the pavilion by opening partner Cameron Tredgett with the total on 43.

Julian Whetstone (37) put on 62 for the third wicket with Paver, who smacked eight sixes and two fours in his 118 from 106 balls, before he was seventh man out with the score on 218.

Hutton closed soon after on 223-7 but Orsett’s openers put on 85 in reply before Paver made the breakthrough with two quick wickets.

Connor Whetstone removed visiting captain Paul Bennett (57) and Mark Pavitt in quick succession, but Orsett were then handily placed at 169-4.

Their last six wickets fell for just 14 runs, though, as Whetstone (4-53) maintained his fine early season form and Paver went on to collect 5-32 before Tom Patterson sealed a third successive victory with the final wicket to leave Hutton 29 points clear at the top of the table.
