Ilford claimed an emphatic 88-run win over Shenfield in their Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division clash at Valentines Park.

Captain Theeban Tavarasa chose to bat after winning the toss but saw openers Harsh Kumar and Akash Raji dismissed cheaply by Charlie Haddon and Jack Plom.

Haddon (2-29) struck again to leave the hosts 38-3, with Mohammad Ahktar and Shane Snater falling to Mitchell Edwards to make it 87-5.

But Essex all-rounder Ashar Zaidi held firm and struck two sixes and 12 fours to reach 92 off 110 balls before becoming the fourth victim for Edwards to leave Ilford 155-7.

Haaris Ayub and Vikrant Venkathesan both reached double figures to lift the total to 197, as Edwards finished with 5-40 from his 21 overs.

And that proved more than enough as Shenfield lost Alan Jones and Ollie Ekers cheaply to Snater and Tavarasa.

Captain Jack Kliber was dismissed by Zaidi, with Ryan Plom bowled by Tavarasa to make it 23-4.

Tom Ballington helped Edwards (23) steady the ship, before three more wickets fell in quick succession to Zaidi and Tavarasa.

Tom Austin (35 off 41 balls) and Garry Sapsford dug in to share 51 for the eighth wicket, only for Shenfield to lose their last three wickets without further addition to their total as they were dismissed for 109, with the wickets shared between Tavarasa (4-27), Snater (3-21), Ahktar (2-4) and Zaidi (2-42).
