Brentwood had to settle for third place in the Premier Division after being denied by Southend on the final day of the season.
Joe Buttleman chose to bat after winning the toss but saw Guy Balmford and younger brother Will fall cheaply.
Rishi Patel (24), Aaron West (76), Jon Walford (48) and Max Osborne (31) all made good contributions with the bat, though, as the visitors closed on 267-9 at Southchurch Park.
And Thomas Moore made early inroads with the ball, picking up three wickets to put the hosts on the back foot.
Ian Belchamber also had success, before Oliver and Matthew Wagstaff led the fightback for Southend.
Both hit half-centuries, before falling to Belchamber and Patel respectively, and Moore (4-57) returned to pick up another wicket.
Belchamber (3-64) also had more success, but Southend’s last-wicket pair held on to see them close on 246-9 and pick up 10 points from the draw to finish one above Colchester, who were relegated alongside Upminster.
