Charlie Griffiths claimed a superb six-wicket haul to help set up victory for Brentwood against Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division champions Chelmsford.

The visitors chose to bat after winning the toss at the Old County Ground, but Thomas Moore (2-25) removed both openers to leave them 32-2.

Ian Belchamber picked up the next wicket, before Griffiths ran through the middle order to dismiss the next five batsmen to fall.

Belchamber (2-42) grabbed his second scalp, before Griffiths completed stunning figures of 9.1-6-4-6 to end the innings on 106.

Brentwood captain Aaron West fell for eight in reply, after hitting two boundaries, but Guy Balmford and Rishi Patel put on an unbroken 99 to see the hosts to a nine-wicket win.

Balmford was unbeaten on 30 from 49 balls, having hit four fours, while Essex youngster Patel closed on 69 from 54 deliveries after hitting six sixes and four fours.
