Billericay and Ilford had to settle for bonus points in their rain-affected Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division draw at Blunts Wall Road.

The visitors chose to bat after winning the toss, but Adam Marchant (2-52) dismissed Harsh Kumar and Akhil Anil cheaply.

Akash Raji (108 not out) and Essex staffer Ashar Zaidi combined in a big stand for the third wicket, though, with the latter hitting three sixes and five fours in his 70 off 57 balls.

Zaidi eventually fell to Ross Poulton as Ilford closed on 221-3 from 45 overs, but Ilford’s left-arm spinner took the only two Billericay wickets to fall in reply as the home side reached 99-2 from 25 overs.

Openers Saurav Prabhakar (24) and Aaron Curtis were the men to fall for top-flight new boys Billericay, but Darren Ironside was unbeaten on 53 from just 35 balls, having hit five fours.

Billericay walked away with just four points and Ilford took nine.
