Billericay maintained their hopes of promotion in Essex League Division One with victory at Belhus.

Captain Lee Knight put the home side into bat and saw Andy Smith strike early with the new ball.

But Belhus reached 105-1, before Essex staffer Paul Walter ran out Matt Doran, a day after playing in the Natwest T20 Blast at Sussex.

Ross Poulton struck soon after and proceeded to run through the middle order on his way to fine figures of 6-57 as Belhus closed on 203-9.

Billericay lost Paul Martin without scoring to the fifth ball of their reply, but Aaron Curtis and Walter put on 102 for the second wicket.

Curtis hit a six and seven fours in his 48 off 52 balls, with tall left-hander Walter striking two sixes and seven fours on his way to 53 off 43 deliveries.

David Houghton (30) kept the visitors on track, before Poulton (33 not out) and skipper Knight secured their five-wicket win to remain one point behind leaders Orsett with three games remaining.
