Big derby date in Division One

Saturday

SNEL Premier Division

Ardleigh Green v Ilford

Green broke their duck for the season with victory against Woodford Wells last weekend.

Long-serving Roy Smith hit a century to help them to a four-wicket success at Central Park, while Ilford went down by one wicket against unbeaten leaders Wanstead.

And Green captain Chris Cook will be looking for his men to build on their maiden triumph and climb out of the basement.

Division 1

Upminster v Hornchurch

Rivals Upminster and Hornchurch meet for the first time this season this weekend.

The two clubs are due to face one another in the last 16 of the Essex T20 competition, following Upminster’s nine-wicket success over Horndon this week.

But league points are more important for now, as Ollie Peck’s men look to keep the pressure on their promotion rivals, while Hornchurch fight to avoid slipping into the bottom two.

Upminster eased past Loughton last weekend, as Alan Ison won the race to 500 league runs.

Hornchurch, however, went down by five wickets against Hainault despite a century from Billy Gordon.

Division 2

Belhus v Harold Wood

Wood strengthened their hold on second place with a six-wicket win over Leigh last weekend.

Colin Sher shone with the bat, after Waqas Shafique and Richard Brabner had taken three wickets apiece.

Hosts Belhus will be smarting, though, after being blown away by rivals Stanford last weekend.

Belhus lost their last seven batsmen for just nine runs to collapse to 80 all out and went down by seven wickets.

Old Southendian v Gidea Park & Romford

Park were frustrated by Horndon’s last-wicket pair at Gallows Corner last weekend.

Stalwart Russ Collard followed his unbeaten half-century with three wickets, as Nigel Fretwell also claimed a trio of victims, to leave the visitors nine down.

But Horndon’s tailenders held on for the final two overs to leave Park with just 12 bonus points for their troubles.
