Cricket: Ilford ease past Hutton

Ilford eased past Hutton in their Essex League Cup first-round tie at a sunny Valentines Park.
The match was switched from Hutton’s Polo Field Ground and Premier Division Ilford made the most of home advantage against the Division One newcomers.
Mohammad Ahktar (4-43) and Ashar Zaidi (3-28) shone with the ball as Hutton were dismissed for 155, with Chris Steinberg (29) top scoring.
Julian Whetstone made 27 on his return from Upminster, with Australian all-rounder Viv Paver (27) and new signing Adam Holgate (22) also making starts.
Akash Raji (40) led the Ilford run chase, putting on 44 with opening partner Harsh Kumar and 45 with Akhil Anil (29).
Essex staffer Zaidi then brought them home to a six-wicket win in the 34th over with an unbeaten 36.
Paver (2-26) picked up a pair of wickets for Hutton, who begin the league campaign against Gidea Park & Romford next weekend.
Ilford, meanwhile, start the new top flight campaign with a trip to face newly promoted Billericay.
