Ardleigh Green captain Lloyd Edwards delighted as his side claimed third consecutive convincing win against Stanford.

Put into bat, they saw Paul Hurworth (28) make early runs alongside Choudhry Mahboob, who had further support from Luke Edwards (48) and captain Lloyd Edwards (55).

Mahboob went on to make 122, with James Duhig adding an unbeaten 25 as Green piled up a challenging 353-7 from their 50 overs, boosted by 32 wides in a total of 43 extras.

“It was a really good win, delighted to get another win,” Edwards said.

“Three wins on the bounce for us and were going in the right direction in the table standings so we can’t ask for more than that from the players.”

The skipper went on to praise batsmen Choudhry Mahboob for his teriffic display in the match.

“Yes Choudhry Mahboob batted superbly.

“Possibly the best knock ive seen him have.

“He rode his luck at time but to open the batting and put on that many runs in that heat was brilliant.

“It set up our innings perfectly and enabled the lower order and the likes of myself to bat a bit more freely.”

Stanford were soon in trouble as Duhig and Trevor Oakley (4-57) claimed early wickets in their reply to leave them five down.

Orrie Fernandes (73) and Adam Knight (93) combined well for the sixth wicket, but Chris Cook and Lloyd Edwards (2-31) broke through and Sam Brooks took the final wicket to seal a 94-run win in the 43rd over.

Victory saw Green leapfrog Westcliff into fifth place at the midway stage of the season ahead of next weekend’s home fixture against West Essex.

“It was comfortable, however after putting on that many runs complacency comes into play especially when fielding out in the heat.

“We got off to a really good start with the ball picking up some early wickets, they then had a partnership in the middle which at one time made us wonder if it could be close but we picked up a couple more wickets and wrapped it up comfortable luckily.”

Edward praised bowler Oakley and believes he’ll be looking at the league statistics after his recent performances.

“It was very good from Trevor, pleasing to see, he looked very happy to have picked up another four wicket haul and i’m sure he will be eyeing up the leagues statistics to see where he is.”
