Ardleigh Green were brought back to earth in Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Three by defeat at Benfleet.

Having thumped West Essex a week earlier, after piling up a whopping 436-7, Green were put into bat at Woodside Park and dismissed for 185 in 41 overs.

Tom Gentle (37) made a start at the top of the order, but Choudhry Mahboob was dismissed for just a single one week on from his 150.

Paul Hurworth also fell for single figures, but Adam Thain (21) managed a start of his own.

Green needed contributions down the order from captain Lloyd Edwards (34) and Sam Brooks (29 not out) to reach 185, though, and then saw Scott Jackson removed the Benfleet top three in reply.

James Duhig (2-39), Brooks and Trevor Oakley also had success with the ball, but the home side reached their target with three wickets and 4.3 overs to spare.

Having seen a four-match winning run brought to an end by their fifth defeat in 11 matches this season, Green now find themselves in fifth place ahead of a trip to leaders Old Brentwoods next weekend.
