Green skipper says team are edging closer to first success

Ardleigh Green’s Chris Cook remains as confident as ever that this week will finally be the time for his side to break their duck in Essex League Division Two this season when they host Belhus tomorrow (Saturday).

The Green skipper believes the team can take a lot of heart into that game from their previous fixture against Wickford.

They may have lost by 24 runs, but Cook was pleased with what he saw and knows the team are edging closer to a first league win this season.

“Each week we’re getting better and better and we’ll take a lot of confidence from the match against Wickford,” said Cook.

“We didn’t bowl too badly against Wickford. Ayaz Younis was brilliant once again and Muhammad Asif on debut did really well for us too.

“Hopefully this weekend will be when we finally get that first win on the board and kick on.”

Belhus currently occupy second place in the standings, but Cook knows who the team must target if Green are to pull off a shock success.

“The Joyce brothers have done really well this season and seem to have put on the majority of their runs,” he added.

“If we can get them out cheaply, then we are in with a real good chance.”
