Brentwood got the better of Hornchurch in their Essex League Premier Division derby at Harrow Lodge Park.

Home captain Roy Smith chose to bat after winning the toss, but Jamie Sorrell fell cheaply to Tom Moore (2-23), who also dismissed Ronnie Saunders (30) to leave Hornchurch 50-2.

Brian Barnard (45) put on 75 for the third wicket with Billy Gordon (37), before falling to Charlie Griffiths (2-25) and Max Osborne (3-45) had further success for the visitors to make it 151-8.

Last man Mehad Khan (23 not out) helped lift the total to 196-9, then dismissed Aaron West early in Brentwood’s reply.

Guy Balmford (20) was run out and wickets continued to fall as Anthony Alleyne held firm at the other end.

Marc Whitlock (2-37) nabbed a brace to make it 122-6 and Alleyne fell for 63 with the total on 148.

But James Redwood (38 not out) and Griffiths (22 not out) shared an unbroken 51 to seal a three-wicket win with seven balls remaining.
