Hosts win Essex League Premier Division derby

Brentwood earned local bragging rights over neighbours Shenfield with victory in their Essex League Premier Division derby at the Old County Ground.

After putting the visitors into bat, captain Joe Buttleman saw Ian Belchamber (3-18), Aaron West (3-63) and Stephan Heywood (2-24) combine well with the ball to hold them to 212-9.

Jack Plom (35 not out) top scored for Shenfield, as Ryan Plom (34), captain Jack Kliber (27), Haris Mahmood (24), Harsh Kumar (21) and Ollier Ekers (20) all made starts.

But Brentwood’s Guy Balmford played the matchwinning innings for the home side, scoring 82 as they secured a three-wicket win.

Anthony Alleyne (28), Max Osborne (27) and skipper Buttleman (20) all gave support with the bat as Brentwood opened their account ahead of a trip to top flight new boys Upminster next weekend.

Having beaten Hornchurch on the first day of the season, Shenfield welcome defending champions Wanstead to the Courage Playing Fields for their next test.
